The annual Kerry Mental Health & Wellbeing FEST 2024 takes place between Saturday, 5th – 12th October 2024. The Fest aims to raise awareness of the available supports and services in the county which includes empowering people to engage with the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ through offering a dynamic and interactive programme of events.

Healthy Kerry state the New Economic Foundation (NEF) literature review findings highlight “building five actions into our day-to-day lives is important for well-being”. Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Fest promote the Five Ways to Wellbeing activities – the “Just A Thought recordings were created by members of the Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Fest to highlight ways in which these daily actions can be incorporated into our lives”. The Five Ways to Wellbeing include:

  1. Connect: Building and nurturing relationships with others.
  2. Give: Doing something nice for someone else.
  3. Take Notice: Being aware of the world around you and reflecting on your experiences.
  4. Keep Learning: Trying new things and challenging yourself.
  5. Be Active: Engaging in physical activities to improve your mood and health

Base Gym is thrilled to announce the arrival of brand-new gym equipment, a much-anticipated upgrade following the unfortunate fire in 2022 that damaged much of our facility. The replacement of the old, damaged equipment marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to provide a top-tier fitness experience for our members.

This new equipment includes state-of-the-art machines that cater to all fitness levels, from beginners to advanced athletes. These additions are a welcome enhancement, complementing the existing equipment that has been carefully curated since our new manager took over. Their dedication to improving the gym’s facilities is evident in this latest upgrade.

Not only does this equipment offer superior functionality and reliability, but it also brings a fresh energy and atmosphere to Base Gym. Members will enjoy a more diverse workout experience with machines designed for safety and efficiency. Exciting Plans at Listowel Community Centre

Following a positive public consultation, Quinn Architects submitted a planning application to Kerry County Council for restoration to part of Listowel Community Centre’s building and an exciting new extension.  The centre was hit by a fire in November 2022 which caused extensive damage to part of the building that significantly impacted services the centre offers to enhance community development. The impressive plans provide state of the art design that will redefine the skyline, scheduled to be completed in 2026.

Our team is looking forward to a brighter future on this exciting development and making a strong comeback to provide enhanced and expanded facilities for Listowel town whilst connecting the centre with the Limerick-Kerry Greenway. Our community has been actively engaged throughout the process via various channels which has been an integral part of the process.

This restorative, new project aims to revitalise and modernise our centre, to provide a better service whilst meeting the evolving needs of our community. The building plans incorporate brand new rooms including physical therapy, wellness and sensory rooms, meeting rooms, a BASE recovery area and BASE studio. The vision is to reimagine and rebuild – the future at Listowel Community Centre is bright and promising!
